The hydraulic pump - The heart of the hydraulic system

Hydraulic pumps are the heart of every hydraulic system and ensure the movement and control of fluids with precision and efficiency. In the search for a reliable and powerful solution for hydraulic applications, one inevitably encounters a variety of hydraulic pumps designed specifically to meet the most diverse requirements.

Our Hydraulic Pumps category offers a comprehensive overview of the different types of hydraulic pumps, including gear pumps, piston pumps, hand pumps, and much more. Each product in this category is carefully selected to enhance the efficiency and performance of your hydraulic system. Moreover, our hydraulic pumps provide a durable solution that withstands the demanding conditions of daily use.

Hydraulic pumps are used in many industries, such as agriculture, construction, municipal technology, or in hydraulic systems in industrial applications.

Hydraulic Pump - Frequently Asked Questions

How does a hydraulic pump work?

Hydraulic pumps work according to the positive displacement principle and convert provided mechanical energy into hydraulic energy. Hydraulic oil is sucked in on the suction side of the pump and supplied to the hydraulic system on the pressure side.

How is a hydraulic pump driven?

A hydraulic pump can be driven in various ways. One common type of drive is a power take-off gear to which the pump is flange-mounted. Other types of drive are electric motors (electro-hydraulic pump) or combustion engines. In tractors, the hydraulic pump is usually driven in the power take-off.

What types of hydraulic pumps are available?

The most common type is the gear pump. This is used in many applications, such as agricultural machinery, construction machinery, hydraulic power units, log splitters and many more. Gear pumps are available in various flange and shaft designs. Gear pumps with aluminium housings are usually suitable for pressures up to a maximum of 280 bar. Axial piston pumps are available for open and closed hydraulic circuits. These piston pumps are available in so-called swash plate and swash axis designs. Axial piston pumps can be operated at high speeds and are also suitable for pressures up to 450 bar. Other types of hydraulic pumps include vane pumps and radial piston pumps. These are often found in industrial applications such as plastic injection machines or test benches.

What flow rate can be generated with a hydraulic pump?

The flow rate for a hydraulic pump is calculated as follows:
Q = Vg · n · ηV / 1000
Q = Flow rate [l/min]
Vg = Displacement of the pump [ccm/REV]
n = Drive speed [RPM]
ηV = volumetric efficiency

Which hydraulic oil is suitable for a hydraulic pump?

The use of the appropriate hydraulic fluid is relevant for smooth operation of the hydraulic system. We recommend the use of hydraulic oil with viscosity ISO VG 32 or ISO VG 46 (HLP32 or HLP46). Other hydraulic media (such as bio-oils) can also be used. Please contact us for further information.

What does a hydraulic pump cost?

The cheapest hydraulic pump is the gear pump. However, this does not mean that this pump is worse than other pumps. The low price is due to the comparatively simple design and the large quantities of this type of pump that are produced. The prices for gear pumps start at about 50 euros. Axial piston pumps are much more expensive. Large axial piston pumps can quickly run into the mid four-digit range.
