Hydraulic steering systems- mode of operation and application
CSUS steering systems have the following integrated valve functions:
Pressure relief valve
Shock valve in L+R
Suction valve in L+R
Check valve in P
CSUS hydraulic steering units or steering cartitroles are available in the following versions:
For CSUS…5(T), a priority valve is always additionally required.
Application:
Vehicles and vessels with fully hydraulic steering systems
Features:
Minimum energy loss
No oil flow in the steering when not steering
High safety and comfort
Low noise
Low pressure drop
Only very low actuating torque of the steering wheel required
Steering capability is maintained even if the steering pump fails (emergency steering)
CSUS type 4, "open center - non load reaction".
In this category you will find steering units of the type “Open Center – Non Load Reaction”.
The designation “Open Center” means that this unit is intended for open systems. In the neutral position, there is an open connection between the pump and the tank. “Non Load Reaction” means that external forces acting on the wheels do not trigger any rotational movement on the steering wheel when the steering unit is in neutral.
Please observe the country-specific legislation for mechanical-hydraulic steering systems in public road traffic. The best known in Europe are the German TÜV regulations § 38StVZO and ISO 5010.
CSUS type 5(T), "closed center - non load reaction - load sensing
In this category you will find steering units of the type “Closed Center – Non Load Reaction -Load Sensing”.
In load-sensing (LS) steering units, the steering system and the working hydraulics can be supplied by a common pump. A priority valve ensures that the steering always has 1st priority.
Steering columns
The HMLS steering columns translate the power from the vehicle’s steering wheel to our CSU, CSUS or other identical hydrostatic steering units. The steering column is made of one piece with a centered control shaft. The permissible shaft load of the steering columns is as follows:
Steering wheel 24daNm
Max. Bending moment 20daNm
Max. axial load capacity 100daNm
From an overall length of 150mm the steering columns must be be additionally secured.
Hydraulic steering for commercial vehicles and other applications
Hydraulic steering is used in various industries, including commercial vehicles, forklifts, excavators, ships and more. Thanks to the hydraulic assistance, steering is facilitated and vehicle operation is improved.
