MV Series Hydraulic Motors – Frequently Asked Questions
For which applications are MV hydraulic motors designed?
- Conveyors – smooth and reliable movement
- Metalworking machines – precision and heavy loads
- Road construction machinery – robust design for tough operations
- Mining machinery – suitable for harsh environments
- Food industry – reliable operation
- Agricultural machinery – versatile in use
- Special vehicles – adaptable to customer-specific requirements
- Plastic and rubber machinery – precise control, high torques
Supported by a wide variety of flange and wheel mountings, shaft versions, and port options.
Which types of MV hydraulic motors are available and how do they differ?
Models from MV 315 to MV 800:
- Displacement: 314.5–801.8 cm³/rev
- Max. speed: depends on model, larger motors generally slower
- Max. torque & output power: increase with displacement
- Max. pressures: model-specific
Configurations: MV (Standard), MVW (Wheel mount), MVS (Short), MVV (Very short).
What are the hydraulic fluid and filtration requirements?
- Oil: HM (ISO 6743/4) or HLP (DIN 51524), mineral oil-based
- For synthetic oils: consult manufacturer
- Viscosity: optimal 20–75 mm²/s, min. 13 mm²/s at 50°C
- Temperature range: -40°C to 140°C, max. 82°C system
- Filtration: ISO 20/16, nominal 25 µm or better
What should be considered regarding permissible shaft loads and bearing life?
- Shaft runs in tapered roller bearings – capable of high axial & radial loads
- Diagram shows max. radial load depending on distance from flange
- Exceeding limits significantly reduces service life
Which mounting styles and shaft options are available?
Mounting styles:
- MV – Standard
- MVW – Wheel mount
- MVS – Short
- MVV – Very short
Shaft options:
- SH – Ø 2¼" splined, 16 DP
- CO – Ø 2" straight, key ½"x½"
- C – Ø 50 mm straight, key A14x9x70
- K – Ø 60 mm tapered 1:10, key B16x10x32
What do “intermittent” and “peak” mean for MV motors?
- Intermittent (int.*): max. 10% of each minute
- Peak (peak**): max. 1% of each minute
- Continuous (cont.): continuous operating values
- Intermittent speed & pressure must not occur simultaneously
When is a case drain line required and what must be observed?
- Required when return pressure is too high
- MV/MVW: connect case drain line directly to the motor
- MVS/MVV: connection at the attached component
- Free flow to tank must be ensured
- Max. pressure depends on shaft seal type (Standard or high-pressure “U” seal)
